Dandelion tea is an easy-to-make herbal tea that utilizes the Dandelion plant. It has an earthy taste and is full of natural benefits. You can make it from the root, or the tops (leaves or flowers), depending upon what is available and which flavor you prefer.

What You’ll Need

- Fresh or dried dandelion (roots, leaves, or flowers)
- Water
- A pot or kettle
- A strainer
Step 1: Choose Your Part
- Roots: Stronger and more bitter, often roasted
- Leaves: Light and slightly bitter
- Flowers: Mild and a bit sweet
- You can use just one part or mix them.
Step 2: Clean Thoroughly
If you’re using fresh dandelion, rinse it well to remove dirt or bugs. Roots may need scrubbing.
Step 3: Boil the Water
Bring 1 to 2 cups of water to a boil.
Step 4: Add Dandelion
- Fresh: Use about 2 tablespoons per cup
- Dried: Use about 1 tablespoon per cup
Add it to the boiling water, then lower the heat.
Step 5: Simmer or Steep
- Roots: Simmer for 10–15 minutes
- Leaves/Flowers: Steep for 5–10 minutes (cover the pot)
Step 6: Strain and Serve
Strain the tea into a cup. Drink it warm. You can add honey or lemon if you like, but it’s optional.

- Always pick dandelions from clean, pesticide-free areas.
- Dry the plant parts if you want to store them for later.
